Skrillex: Pick to Click Part 2 (Bromance)
by Snake on Jun.01, 2012, under DUBBYfresh Beats, DUBBYstep Emerging Artists
On Tuesday, Koan Sound kicked off Skrillex’s list of artists that he thinks should be big. Today, at DUBBY, we turn our focus to the French duo ‘Bromance.’ Bromance is the collaboration of Brodinski and Gesaffelstein.
DUBBYstep’s own, PhillyP, has seen both of these guys before aboard Holy Ship! and can agree with Skrillex about their sound. When they come together to form Bromance they sound like they are, ‘doing the techno thing, but it’s a bit more aggressive and punk-rock than normal.’
Check them out below.
Skrillex: Pick to Click Part 1 (Koan Sound)

I came across the latest Rolling Stone issue over the weekend and it was their ‘Big’ Issue. A lot of the focus was on up-and-coming artists. In music, in acting and in life.
What impressed me the most was a deep dive into EDM with features on Skrillex and SHM. Rolling Stone asked Skrillex who he thought should be big time artists. He listed four. DUBBYstep will take a look at each one. If Skrillex digs these artists then they must be talented.
First up…Koan Sound.
The duo from Bristol, UK is signed to Skrillex’s label, OWSLA. Koan Sound is known for their down tempo, dubstep-inspired glitch hip-hip, according to Skrillex and Rolling Stone.
Their sound is mellow and free-spirited at one moment and then bass-bumping the next. A sound that can really get the dance floor going. The mellowness in some of their tracks may be attributed back to the meaning of ‘Koan,’ which is a puzzling, often paradoxical statement or story, used in Zen Buddhism as an aid to meditation and a means of gaining spiritual awakening.
Koan Sound is playing all over the world this summer, but will make their next step at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.
Check out their featured track with Foreign Beggars on YouTube, ‘Look Who’s Back.’
Dirtybird Records has “Hatched”

I feel the urge to post an unreleased song I first discovered from Justin Martin on HOLY SHIP! now that the rumor has come and gone that Daft Punk will be headlining the Spring Awakening Festival in Chicago this June.
The track that Martin introduced me to is French Fries’ 2011 remix of Thomas Bangalter’s, “What To Do.” The original track was created by Bangalter in 1995 and the remix is now rumored to be getting an official release on Dirtybird Records. For those of you confused about the correlation right now, Thomas Bangalter is one half of French electronic duo, Daft Punk, and French Fries is a young producer/DJ who also hails from France. This is a different genre of dance music than traditional Daft Punk songs, but it definitely is fun to shake your ass to live!
French Fries’ EP “Yo Vogue” features remixes by Claude Vonstroke (on the line-up for Chicago’s Spring Awakening 2012) and Leroy Peppers aka Christian Martin. However, ‘What To Do’ is not part of it. ‘Yo Vogue’ is the most recent release on Dirtybird Records and can be found over at beatport.com. Posted below is Claude Vonstroke’s remix of French Fries’ ‘Yo Vogue’ for a small taste of the heavy bass we can expect from his Spring Awakening set.
